✩ How do I register?

You can register online at our secure site. Click on the Registration tab and follow the directions. Remember – there are no refunds, cancellations, or deferrals to future years . Online registration will close on Thursday, August 31st at 11:59PM. Registration for the marathon, marathon relay, and half marathon will close when each of those events reach capacity (see below). On race weekend, you may still register for the Youth Run and Beardsley 5K at the DL Pavilion Packet Pickup / Expo.

✩ Is there a capacity limit (cap) on the distance events?

The Dick Beardsley Marathon faces both logistical and materials constraints, necessitating the existence of a capacity limit on these events. We have a cap of 500 on the full marathon, 1,000 on the half marathon and 500 on the 10K Run. The 5K and Youth Runs do not have caps on them. The caps exist to ensure that all participants receive a safe and enjoyable experience along with the perks promised to them.

✩ What events do you offer?

We offer a marathon, 2 and 4 person marathon relay, half marathon, 5K and the Pro Systems Youth Run. The Packet Pickup/Expo area is open Friday, September 9th from 10AM to 9PM. Early morning packet pickup is available on race morning between 5:30AM and 11:00AM. However, you must have your packet picked up at least 60 minutes prior to the start of your “race of choice”.

✩ Are there pacers for the half and full marathons?

Yes….we definitely have Pacers for these two events! Pacers are available for the following goal times:

Full Marathon 3:25 ~ 3:35 ~ 3:50 ~ 4:00 ~ 4:20 ~ 4:30 ~ 5:00 ~ 6:00
Half Marathon 1:35 ~ 1:40 ~ 1:45 ~ 1:50 ~ 1:55 ~ 2:00 ~ 2:05 ~ 2:10 ~ 2:15 ~ 2:20 ~ 2:30 ~ 2:45 ~ 3:00

✩ Are headphones, ipods or MP3 players permitted?

You may wear your headphones, iPods or MP3 players, however, we ask that you keep the volume AT A REASONABLE LEVEL for your own safety and out of courtesy for fellow participants. You should still be able to hear participants and volunteers in proximity to you. BE COURTEOUS OF OTHERS!

✩ Is this a Boston Marathon qualifier?

Yes, the event will be sanctioned by USA Track & Field and the course will be certified, which makes it useable as a Boston Marathon qualifier.

✩ Do I need to return the chip?

No. We are using disposable chips that are attached to your bib. They DO NOT need to be turned in after the race. They should also not be torn off your bib.

✩ Is the course hilly?

The half and full marathon courses are described as 70% flat and 30% rolling hills.

✩ Are strollers allowed?

Strollers are allowed in the 5K. They are not permitted in the marathon or half marathon or marathon relay. The adult must be a registered runner wearing a bib. The child must stay in the stroller throughout the race.

✩ What is the temperature in Detroit Lakes that time of year?

According to weather.com, the average high is 73 degrees Fahrenheit and the average low is 49 degrees Fahrenheit.

✩ Where can I park on race day?

There is ample parking in the parking lot of the Becker County Fairgrounds located three blocks west of the DL Pavilion. Washington Park has some parking as well. Do not park on main roads or roads marked “no parking” since many are part of the course.

✩What is the sport drink?

Powerade (Mountain Berry Blast) is the official sports drink of the marathon.

✩ Will there be energy gel on the course?

Yes. GU will be available at mile 7 on the half marathon course, and at miles 6 & 20 on the full marathon course.

✩ How far apart are the water stations?

Water stations are located at approximately every 2 miles on the course.

✩ How long will the course be open?

The full marathon course will be open for 7 HOURS, equivalent to a sixteen minute per mile pace. The half marathon course will be open for 4 HOURS, equivalent to an eighteen minute per mile pace. There will be a support vehicle traveling behind the slowest finishers.

✩ Do I receive a medal?

Yes, all marathon, half marathon, marathon relay, 10K, 5K and Youth Run finishers receive a medal. The medal will be different for each event.

✩ Can I CHANGE events or transfer my entry to another participant?

Yes and Yes, with the exception of the marathon relay event. We do not allow transfers into the relay. You can change events or transfer your entry to another participant on the Registration page of the website. There is a $10 administrative fee for changing events and transferring your entry. If you change to a higher entry fee event, you must pay the difference. All changes must be done online prior to midnight on September 1, 2017. You may only change to a different event IF the event that you want to change to STILL HAS AVAILABILITY. In other words, if the half marathon is sold out, you may not change from another event into the half marathon. To change events - CLICK HERE

**SWITCHING EVENTS OR TRANSFERRING ENTRIES IS NOT PERMITTED AT THE EXPO. THESE CHANGES MUST BE MADE ONLINE BY SEPTEMBER 1ST AT MIDNIGHT.

✩ Can I sign up for the marathon and just run the half marathon course?

Participants are discouraged from running an event other than the one that they are registered for. Those who choose to do so on race day will be able to cross the finish line, collect a finisher medal and enjoy the post-race celebration, but they will not appear in the posted results for the event.*Note: Participants will only receive t-shirts and medals that correspond to the event represented on their packet or bib number regardless of which event they actually run. Example: A registered marathon participant who chooses to run the half marathon on race day will only be able to receive a marathon medal and a marathon t-shirt.

✩ How many runners do you expect?

Under the new management of the Fargo Marathon Events team, our goal is to start out slowly and focus on a quality event. With that, we are capping the full marathon at 400 people, the half marathon at 1,000 people and the 10K at 400 people. The 5K will have a larger cap of 750 people. The Youth Run will not have a cap.

✩ When is the last day to register?

The last day to register online if events are not sold out is 11:59PM on Thursday, August 31st. Walk-in registration for open events will be available at the DL Pavilion on Friday, September 8th and Saturday morning, September 9th. PLEASE NOTE: ONCE THE SHIRTS, MEDALS AND BIBS HAVE BEEN EXHAUSTED, WALK-IN REGISTRATION WILL CLOSE.

✩ Where do I get my race packet?

At the Detroit Lakes Pavilion located on Washington Avenue and Detroit Lakes Beach! Packet Pickup is available on Friday, September 8th from 10AM to 9PM and again on Saturday, September 9th from 5:30AM to 10:00AM.

✩ What do I need to get my packet?

Your name and/or bib number. Bib #s will be e-mailed out to all pre-registered runners approximately one week before the race.

✩ Can someone pick up my packet for me if I am unable to do so?

Yes, they would need your name and/or bib number.

✩ What type of wheelchairs are allowed?

Push-rims are the only style of wheelchair allowed. The top 3 male/female wheelchairs are recognized in each event.

✩ Are there bathrooms on the course?

Yes. There will be bathrooms available (typically porta-potties) at every water station along the course, or approximately every 2 miles.

✩ How many timing mats are there?

In addition to the start and finish line mats, there will be on-course timing mats at miles 6.2, 13.1 and 20 for the full marathon.

✩ How do I get live results?

All of the timing mats will provide live updates via email and/or text message.

✩ What is the cancellation policy?
